Chemistry

Why study Chemistry?

Study chemistry through many courses or as a major in the Bachelor of Science and related double degrees. Chemistry offers laboratory-based training and a research-based component at all levels, providing a pathway to PhD studies.

Students have access to some of the best teaching and research facilities in the world with the new $100 million La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) building.

Career opportunities

Our students work in areas such as molecular genetics, biology, nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry, drug design and development, energy, nutrition, sustainability and new technologies in computer and communication industries. Your role may be associated with water, fuels, air and atmosphere, nuclear interaction, forensics, medicines and food.

La Trobe designs its courses with your future career in mind and partners with a range of professional organisations for accreditation and registration. Refer to the detail for each course below to see what professional registration and membership options exist.
